Shivangi Medhi: Senior Public Health Specialist

Former Highams Park School student Shivangi has two part paid roles and is also a trustee for a local charity: 

Senior Public Health Specialist at Hackney Council - currently focusing on tobacco control; an NIHR SPHR pre-doctoral Public Health Research Fellow - UCL Department of Primary Care and Population Health - focusing on sexual and reproductive health, and public mental health related research and a Management Committee Board member - Ashiana Network (supporting Black and minority ethnic women who have experienced gender-based violence).

  1. Please can you explain both your roles?
  2. What interested you in getting into this field of work?
  3. What route did you take into these roles? Are there specific qualifications which I might need?
  4. Do you have to do talks on public health?
  5. What age group is affected the most in sexual health
  6. How do you collect data?
  7. How do people get referred to your service? Can they put themselves forwards?
  8. What do you have in place to support people with their mental health needs?
  9. What programs do you run for people for tobacco control?
  10. Is there a link to why people from ethnic backgrounds are more exposed to Domestic violence?
  11. Is gender based violence more prevalent within the LGBTQ or heterosexual community? Why?
  12. Do you work with other agencies to support the women? Are there other specialist services which you might refer them to?
