Chartered Psychologist Dr Pamela Nkyi - Mental Health/wellbeing talk with year 12 and 13
On 13 February 2020, Chartered Psychologist Dr Pamela Nkyi came in to run a talk/Q&A on Mental health with our Health and Social Care, Psychology, and Sociology students.
The hour-long session was in intensely
interactive with Pamela and the students doing a range of quizzes, visual
learning and challenging misconceptions through discussions on Mental health.
Students were engaged throughout the session
as they were provided with a strong insight into:
·
How mental health can manifest in our
everyday lives
·
What strategies we should implement to look
after our well-being including why we need to have good quality supporters ‘in
our corner’.
·
How it affects people of different
communities like BAME for example – Pamela talked about the impact of institutionalised
views & stereotypes of which individuals/groups are mentally unwell and how
they should be treated.
Pamela kindly offered the students an extensive range of support contacts. These are all available (alongside information about today’s talk both below and on the student well-being Firefly pages.)
Special Thanks goes to Mrs Eyiah and Mrs Callendar for helping to coordinate today’s session.
