Cinnamon buns and Empanadas! Wednesday 17 June 2020

“How quickly these sessions come round! So here we are again with another outstanding cooking session. Today we made Cinnamon Buns as requested by the students last week. This was a new recipe to me too, so we all learnt together.

I chose a recipe from the BBC Good Food website as these are trustworthy. The students showed that they were good master bakers, mixing, kneading, proving, and shaping the dough.

While the dough proved for an hour; we made  Spicy Beef Empanadas and  Spicy cheese, sweetcorn, and bean Empanadas for the vegetarians that were in today.

This was a reverse to the usual routine of the savoury item being served at breaktime (rather than a sweet) as a power brain boosting snack - they disappeared off the plate so quick I could not even get to take a photo of them being enjoyed

The buns were glazed and dusted with cinnamon sugar or a drizzle of icing. The smell in the room when they came out of the oven tantalized my tastebuds so much that I just had to try one... well two!

Big thanks goes to Ms Feltwell who supported today's session and was a brilliant; supporting students with shaping the dough and clearing up at the end of the session.”
