Welcome to New Year 7 Students and Parents

Welcome to Highams Park School

March 2024

On 1st March 2024, you will receive an email from LBWF, letting you know which secondary school your child has been offered.

  • If you still wish your child to attend the school offered, then you need to "accept" the school place with  LBWF Admissions.
  • If you have changed your mind, you need to complete the Change of Preference Form, found HERE, these will be processed by LBWF Admissions after 1st March 2023.

April 2024

We are aware from previous years that the move from Year 6 into Year 7 can sometimes feel like a huge responsibility for the students and for you as a parent. With that in mind we hope the future events we have planned will help to assure you that this is not something that you will work through alone.

We will post and email our initial letter to you at the start of April.  This provides you with details of future dates and events that you will need to be aware of.

We appreciate that you will receive a huge amount of information over the next few months, there is a lot of helpful information here on our Intranet, called Firefly.

New Year 7 Parents meeting – Tuesday 25th June 2024

Both parents and students should attend this meeting, where you will be joined by the rest of your childs form group and have the opportunity to meet their Form Tutor, and the rest of the Year 7 team. Hopefully we will be able to answer all of your questions. Please complete the form here to leave any questions you have and we will endeavour to answer them during this meeting. We will write to you with more details of your specific meeting time in due course.

Baseline Assessment Day - Saturday 29th June 2024

All new Year 7 students will be invited to Highams Park to carry out some cognitive ability tests. These cannot be prepared for and are designed to help us ascertain your child’s academic strengths, and areas they may need support with. There will be two different sessions on the day, and we will write to you in May to confirm the personalised details for your child.

Induction Day - Wednesday 3rd July 2024

As part of the induction process, all new Year 7 students will also be invited to attend the school for an Induction Day. The Induction Day will provide the children with the opportunity to experience a normal full school day with the rest of the school also in session. They will meet their future classmates, as well as some of their subject teachers.

Highams Parks Transition Summer school - end of August 2024

We are keen to run our hugely successful summer school again next year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to become familiar with the school site prior to starting in September and to meet other new students whilst having a huge amount of fun. The school will offer a range of activities, there will be sessions run by each of our core subjects in Numeracy, Literacy and Science, as well as a wide range of other secondary school subjects: History, PE and Outward Bounds and Computer Science. There may be a small charge for the summer school, further information will follow nearer the time.

First day of School - Wednesday 4th September 2024

First day of School 8.30am via the Schools main entrance in school uniform. Only the Year 7 and Year 12 students will be in school on this day, which will enable the new students to experience a school day before the remainder of the school start back on the Thursday.

SAFEGUARDING - Staying Safe at School

The school is committed to your child’s welfare, protection and safety. Each child has a fundamental right to be protected from harm and from all forms of neglect, abuse and exploitation, and should feel safe and secure. The school works hard to ensure that incidents of bullying are rare, and should they occur, they are dealt with promptly and sensitively.

If your child has any concerns about their safety and welfare, they can raise these issues with any member of staff they feel they can talk to. Their concerns will be taken seriously.

These teachers in the school have specific safeguarding responsibilities.
