Waltham Forest Year 9 Football Competition January 2023

Congratulations to our Year 9 girls football team .

The girls competed against 12 other schools over 4 weeks in the cold, rain and sunshine finishing 2nd in the League and qualifying for the Cup Competition.

After a tense semi final against South Chingford the girls won 2-1 making through the their first final, and it was a special event. A hard-fought battle against local rival, Fredrick Bremmer. Ending in a 1 –1 draw with a goal from Xiane Bruce to put us through to an intense penalty shoot-out.

This was the first shoot out for all our team members and took eleven spot kicks for the outcome to be decided. It wasn’t our day unfortunately, but this team have demonstrated resilience since the start of the year when they struggled to find confidence and churn out results they committed to training sessions twice a week, and put in the hard work to better themselves which resulted in goals galore throughout the tournament and a head to head battle all the way until the final kick. This team are a brilliant example of what you can achieve when you demonstrate resilience, respect and responsibility.

A well deserved 2nd place. Well done to them all
