Olympic Park Visit 11 - 13 June 2019

Year 10 attended the Olympic Park trip for their GCSE Geography course on the 10th and 13th June this term.  Year 10 battled valiantly in very rainy weather to complete a full investigation of the Carpenter's Estate, a housing development on the edge of the park that is facing demolition and East Village, the new development which housed athletes from around the world in the 2012 Olympics.  We were very impressed with how seriously our year 10 Geographers took on the task, carrying out building quality and crime surveys and brought their data back to the classroom for analysis and interpretation - this will be a great help for writing answers in their Geographical Skills paper.

For the first time this year we also went up the Arcelor Mittal tower, built to create great views across the Olympic Park.  At 114 metres above the ground, it did make some of us feel quite wobbly but we all enjoyed seeing the entire park and the sites we had visited.  This was good fun and it was great to be reminded of the 2012 games whilst being able to see how useful the park is and how it continues to change.  We walked down using the long spiral staircase - next year perhaps we will use the slide!
