YEAR 11 AT HIGHAMS PARK ACHIEVE EXCEPTIONAL GCSEs
Students at Highams Park School have been celebrating outstanding outcomes in their GCSE results. When they began their GCSE journey in September 2019 it could never have been imagined that the students would have to navigate a global pandemic, school closures, enforced online learning, face-masks in classrooms and all of the other manifold pressures caused by COVID-19. As they look forward to their A Level and BTEC courses every student should be proud of their achievements and of the resilience they have shown throughout the last two years.
There have been exceptional individual achievements again this year, most notably Connor Dunne and Maggie McKeon, both of whom achieved eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s across their GCSEs. Connor and Maggie will stay in the 6th Form at Highams Park, with Conor doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths as he pursues his ambitions to be a doctor, and Maggie studying Computer Science, Further Maths and Physics.
Following closely on the heels of Connor and Maggie were Saim Rana, who achieved a fantastic seven Grade 9s, along with Rojen Dag and Oliver Williams, both of whom gained a very impressive six GCSEs at Grade 9. All three students are moving on to study STEM subjects in our 6th Form, with Oliver also pursuing his love of sport through our Level 3 BTEC qualification.
Our next tranche of top achievers managed a magnificent 75 Grade 8s and 9s between them. Caitlin Davey-Hosking, Digby Gough-Boyack, Meenakshi Hari, Daniel Higginson, Jack Hill, Stanley Morris, Gracie Purton, Emily Ralph, Meriem Yemmi and Fatima Zait have secured some fabulous outcomes and are looking forward to further success in their post-16 studies, taking on subjects as diverse as Business Studies, Chemistry, English Literature, French, Music and Psychology.
As ever, it is the students who have made the most progress over the course of Years 7-11 at Highams Park of whom we are particularly proud. Five of our students exceeded their aspirational targets by more than two and a half grades. This demonstrates superb commitment, determination and work ethic. Fatima Zait and Omega Mpungu made the greatest progress out of our cohort of 240 students, closely followed by Ajay Chamdal, Owen Travis and Shauna Lawrence. They all deserve great credit for their achievements, which come from their hard work and unwavering teacher support throughout their secondary school careers.
Principal, Phil Grundy, said: “Having battled through the challenges of GCSE study in the midst of a global pandemic, our students thoroughly deserve all of their successes today. They have taken responsibility for their learning and demonstrated admirable resilience in difficult circumstances. It is also important to recognise the efforts of their teachers and all the staff at Highams Park School who have worked so hard to help students secure their well-earned grades. I am delighted that so many of our students have enrolled in the 6th Form and we look forward to supporting them in the next stage of their education.”
